Maximum Residue Level (MRL)
Introduction
For registrations of plant protection products in Europe, the setting of EU Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) is binding before a registration will be granted in an EU Member State. The MRLs will be evaluated by the Member States and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and discussed in the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCFCAH) meetings for Phytopharmaceuticals. In case there is scientific evidence that an MRL can be higher as set before, the WTO will be informed and comments could be provided in the WTO/SPS (sanitary and phytosanitary measures) procedure.
